Text Box: The 58th annual conference of the California Weed Science Society will be held January 16th through the 18th, 2006 at the Ventura Marriott Hotel in Ventura. The members of both the board of directors and program committee would like to extend an invitation to you, to join us at this educational event. This year’s theme is “Improvise, Adapt and Overcome in California Weed Management”.

The program committee has put together a dynamic group of presenters who will be covering a diverse set of weed management subjects. For this year’s conference we have added two “Special Topic Sessions” that will address local issues. “Weed Control Options in Strawberry Production” and “Non-Crop Weed Control in Central/Southern California” will be addressed. These two sessions will run concurrently on Monday morning starting at 10:00 AM following the Turf Session at 8:00 AM. The General Session on Monday afternoon will cover several wider arching topics including climate, air and environmental justices. On Tuesday we will once again run a variety of specialized concurrent sessions for conference participants to select from. Within the concurrent sessions four selected students will have an opportunity to present their papers. Finally, Tuesday will conclude with the ever-popular “What’s New Session”. If you have a new product or concepts that apply to weed management please contact Jack Schlesselman or the CWSS office to secure a slot in this session. On Wednesday we will come back together for two final topics, “Weed of the Year” and the “Law & Regulations” session. This year’s “Weed of the Year” will provide information and insight on the developing situation of “Resistant Weeds in California”. This session will include a presentation on the newest emerging problem of resistant horseweed. In the final session of the conference, timely and appropriate subjects dealing with “Laws and Regulations” will be covered, including an update on “Volatile Organic Compounds”.

The California Weed Science Society annual conference will be seeking approval from CA-DPR plus other states for continuing educational credits. The current program is anticipated to receive approval for 18 hours of CEU credit with a minimum of 2 hours in Laws and Regs.

We look forward to you joining us on January 16 -18, 2006 in Ventura at the Marriott Hotel.
